Hiking

Syncline Boots

Take off in just about any direction except south into the Columbia River and you'll find easy to challenging hikes along rugged cliffs, Oregon white oak woodlands, rivers and streams, and wide open meadows with sweeping views of the Gorge that rival any other. Syncline HikersThe unique soils and climate have created some very special plant communities that include many endemic and rare plants and wildflowers that deliver a spectacular succession of colorful displays. And with unique plant communities come unique species of animals that are equally as rare as the plants they rely upon for habitat.

From the well worn path of Weldon Wagon Road to the unplanned "social" trails criss-crossing the Syncline - Catherine Creek area you'll find beauty and simplicity, ease and challenge to satisfy your desires and renew your spirit. For some specific trail ideas visit the Washington Trails Association or Friends of the Columbia Gorge websites.
