Press Release: City of White Salmon Earns Risk Management Award

City of White Salmon Earns Risk Management Award

At its October 17, 2023 Annual Meeting, the AWC Risk Management Service Agency (RMSA) recognized the risk management efforts of  its members that contributed to an improvement in their liability claims experience over the past year. The awards acknowledge the hard work and dedication RMSA’s members put into proactively managing their risks and keeping their communities safe.

The daily operations of running a municipal entity are complex, but managing risks and engaging in risk management help keep municipalities running effectively,  efficiently, and promotes stronger, more resilient communities. AWC RMSA commended the City of White Salmon for its dedication to excellent risk management practices by recognizing it as one of this year’s loss control award winners in the categories of Loss Control Recognition, Loss Control Champion, and Engaged Member.

Actions the city has taken in the last year to better manage risks include wildfire mitigation, ensuring our Public Works crew is trained in operating heavy equipment and certified in providing clean water to our residents, as well as engaging an outside HR consultant to better support the needs of employees.

“Our team has spent a lot of time over the past year evaluating our operations and finding ways for improvement. This includes how residents interact with City Hall and the services we provide, how our employees are trained, and the opportunities provided to increase their skill set, and our processes to minimize risk. This recognition certainly reinforces how important those efforts are and will continue to be going forward.” said City Administrator Troy Rayburn.

A program of the Association of Washington Cities, RMSA is a municipal risk pool protecting the employees, assets, and officials of 106 of Washington’s cities, towns, and special purpose districts from property and liability risks and cost.
