Vehicle Registration Information - If You Live in Washington, Register in Washington

The City of White Salmon is raising the awareness about vehicle registration. We realize some of our residents may have moved here during the pandemic and not realize the importance of changing their vehicle registration to Washington in a timely fashion. Vehicle registration fees are an important funding source for statewide programs and support, and millions are lost each year by vehicles not registered in state. If this has been on your to-do list, we encourage you to register your vehicle! A few reasons why registration is important:

  • By law, new Washington residents have 30 days to get a state driver’s license and register any vehicles after declaring residency. The Washington Legislature found counties that border other states and Canada have a problem with residents evading taxes and fees by not registering their vehicle in the state.
  • Residents can be fined $529 or more for failing to renew or update their registration.

Since July 1, 2022, fees increased for Washington state license plates to help fund the state's nearly $17 billion transportation package "Move Ahead Washington" which was signed into law earlier this year. That law includes $75M allocated towards the Hood River Bridge Project.
